In the world of video games, Mortal Kombat has held a revered status since its inception. However, while the 2019 release of Mortal Kombat 11 was met with acclaim for staying true to the franchise’s essence, there was one notable misstep – the casting choice of Ronda Rousey as the iconic character Sonya Blade. Rousey’s voice acting left much to be desired, and her controversial past did not help matters.
Now, to the surprise of many, it appears that Mortal Kombat developer Nether Realm Studios is doubling down on celebrity voice actors, but this time, the choice has raised fewer eyebrows and generated more excitement. As reported by IGN, Megan Fox will be making her mark in the upcoming Mortal Kombat game, not only as a voice actor but also by lending her likeness to the character. This announcement has set the stage for what some are calling the “Jennifer’s Body” video game adaptation fans have long wished for.
Nitara, the character Megan Fox will portray, may not be as well-known as series mainstays like Scorpion or Sub-Zero, but she did make an appearance as a member of the villainous team in the recent Mortal Kombat movie, where she met a rather gruesome fate. It seems Nether Realm Studios might have learned a lesson from their previous casting choice – Nitara’s character isn’t as beloved or central to the series as Sonya Blade, so the risk associated with Megan Fox’s performance is considerably lower.
Initial impressions suggest that Fox is well-suited for the role. Although the announcement video is a tad peculiar, with Fox donning a large pink hat and explaining her involvement in the game as if she just received the news on the spot, her enthusiasm shines through. She confidently declares, “I’ll steal Datusha and kill you with it” before engaging in some seriously violent gameplay, promising an exciting addition to the Mortal Kombat universe.
